Blessings!

Hello everyone! I hope everyone had a great week! This week has been a good week and Its transfer time already! CRAZY! This transfer has flown by! We won’t know who is leaving or staying until Wednesday so stay tuned for that! So sad news! Elder Perry WILL NOT be coming anymore BUT happy news! Elder Christofferson IS coming this next Sunday to a Missionary Fireside we are putting on! HOW FREAKIN AWESOME IS THAT?!?! I am WAAAY excited for that! I LOVE Elder Christofferson! Now to the good stuff!

Earlier this week we were given a referral from another set of missionaries that a member had given them, so Tuesday we contacted the referral, the member did not give them a lot of information about them, just an address and that she may need some help with service. So will this little information we knocked on the door and mentioned the member’s name and that he said that she might need some help and she immediately welcomed us and started talking to us and knew exactly who we were. The member who referred her is actually someone who is renting a room from her while is finishing up orientation at OSU medical center, and she told us what she knew about us and that she wanted to know more about us and that she knew we were sent to her from God. We have a lesson with her tomorrow and are helping her move some things on Saturday. She is very interested and is definitely a miracle! Great things are happening in our area! We are definitely trying our best so the rest is in the Lord’s hands! I love you all and I can’t wait to hear from you! Don’t be afraid to write emails OR letters! I don’t bite and I do my best to reply! But I would hold off on letters until I give the go ahead about transfers on Wednesday! I pray for you all daily!

BURRRRR ITS SO COLD!!!!

Hello everyone!!! How are you?!?! GOOD! Things are going well! It is sooo cold here we couldn’t help but laugh at how cold it was when we were out it was funny haha! it was like -10 and -24 with windchill so it was SUUUUPER COLD! But we are fine! no damage! Also we don’t ride bikes in the snow because 1) Ohio has a thing against sidewalks because they have like none, even in the city, and 2) WHEN THEY DO, they aren’t cleared. So it makes it hard to ride so we just walk! haha  We had a really good lesson last night with a less active family. During the lesson we were able to discover the family’s real concern. When they first joined the church they were in a lot of financial trouble and the ward helped them out a ton, so they expressed to us that they didn’t feel worthy to come to church and that if they did come that they would think that people there would not want them there because they were not able to give back. After they expressed this to us, Elder Gardner related the story of the Prodigal Son to them and it helped them understand the importance of making a change and coming back, that people would be overjoyed that they were there and not be worried about the past. Which we feel would be true, every Sunday at least one member of the ward asks us where this family is and why they aren’t there. So they are definitely missed! We invited them to pray everyday until church next Sunday asking for the strength to over come this fear and to attend church. But it was probably one of the most powerful lessons I have been in. I felt nothing but love and concern for this family and I wanted to help them with ever fiber of my being! One of our biggest concern is being able to find some people to teach but it will come. Saturday during studies we were getting frustrated because we weren’t finding anyone and as I was studying “patience” I came across D&C 5:34 which reads,

“34 Yea, for this cause I have said: Stop, and stand still until I
command thee, and I will provide means whereby thou
mayest accomplish the thing which I have commanded thee.”

and I immediately got the thought, “Hold on, keep doing what you are doing, I am still preparing someone.” and then this was instantly followed by the spirit. It was the craziest thing ever! So awesome. So we are just renaming faithful and being still! Which is weird for a missionary but we are! We are being still NOT idle. haha My advice for Katia and anyone is to learn to love the Book of Mormon. Pray to God EVERYTIME you read it asking him if it is true! And EVERY TIME he will tell you it is true! I promise you that! The Apostles do it and so should we! SPEAKING OF APOSTLES MARION IS BECOMING A WARD SO ELDER PERRY IS COMING AT THE END OF THE MONTH FOR THAT! I AM SO EXCITED!! THEY ARE FINALLY BECOMING A WARD! HAPPY DAY! Elder Perry served there when HE was a missionary that’s why he is coming! But it is so cool! Anyways I love you all and Hope all is well!

Happy New Year!!

Hello everyone! I hope everyone had an amazing Christmas and that everyone was able to celebrate the birth of our Savior! Christmas was good! I loved being able to talk to my family.

We spent Christmas Eve and Christmas taking goodies that we made to Members, Less Actives and Investigators! That was a lot of fun!
So Funny Story Time!
In our area we have this bike bridge that is like super steep and rainbow shaped that goes over the the freeway, after the first time we went over it my companion Elder Gardner turns to me after we go over it and is like “I will NEVER walk over that bridge. NEVER!!” haha so the very next time we go over I get to the other side and I turn around to see where he is and what do I see?! I see him WALKING over the bridge! So he finally gets to the other side and I am like “What Happened?!” and all he does is hold up this long chain. Well his bike chain broke off his brand new bike! The bike hadn’t even gone 8 miles! (I have a bike computer I counted!) Moral of the story be careful what you say because sometimes God has a sense of humor! But fear not because He got a new chain put on his bike from the bike shop he bought the bike from!
Also this past Sunday we taught Gospel Principles, and it was about the Sabbath Day. I learned so much from preparing this lesson! When the Sabbath is called “The Day of Rest” it is not referring to napping alllllll day and eating and napping some more! We are supposed to rest from our daily activities and bless others lives! “The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath” (Mark 2:27) Meaning “The purpose of the Sabbath is to give us a certain day of the week on which to direct our thoughts and actions toward God. It is not a day merely to rest from work. It is a sacred day to be spent in worship and reverence. As we rest from our usual daily activities, our minds are freed to ponder spiritual matters. On this day we should renew our covenants with the Lord and feed our souls on the things of the Spirit.” (Gospel Principles Manual)
I have never thought about it in this way before, there are SOOO many things that we can do on the Sabbath to spiritually better ourselves. Someone in the class made the comment that some Sundays they are exhausted at the end of them but at the same time they are re-energized to go and do the things they need to do the rest of the week! And it is so true! Even for a missionary! At times I am exhausted on Sundays but I look forward to them because of the Spirit that is with you when you keep the Sabbath Day holy! Now I am not saying it is bad to take naps on Sunday because Sunday naps are the best! But don’t sleep the whole day away, because then you have wasted a great opportunity to grow closer to your Savior!
I am grateful for this gospel and the joy it brings me! I love this work and I wouldn’t be anywhere else. I love you all and wish you the the best and a safe New Year! I love you!!!

Merry Christmas!!! And ITS A BOY!!

So recap time! I have been transferred and I am Training a brand new baby boy, weighing 160 lbs and 69 inches long! His name is Elder Gardner and he comes from Idaho Falls, Idaho (duh)! He has been a member of the church for a little less than 2 years! He is awesome! And he is practically training me! We have been doubled in to the Worthington 3 area! (I am always serving in the 3rd area! Weird!) The ward is AWESOME! We get fed almost every night which has NEVER happened to me before! Its awesome! A lot of grad and medical students at OSU, so a lot of the ward is like 1-3 years older than me! lol its weird! But its been awesome! Yesterday we had a Christmas devotional! That was a lot of fun! We invited members, investigators, everyone to come and the missionaries had a choir and and small groups singing and a program and the mission president spoke! The spirit was awesome! During the devotional they showed the new Piano Guys video with David Archuleta and Peter Hollins! It was so awesome to see all these people come together to #ShareTheGift! If you haven’t seen it go watch it now!

It is amazing! I love you all and I hope you all have a Merry Christmas!

I invite you to #ShareTheGift!

Hello everyone! I know it has been a while since I posted, but time to change that! I hope everyone is well! This past week The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints released a video called “He is the Gift”! On Tuesday us missionaries had a special training to help us prepare for this video and initiative behind it so that we can help members of the church, Share the Gift of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and all he has done for us! Now before reading I invite you to watch the video, even if you have watched it already watch it again! As you do pay attention to the spirit and how you feel about the video! It wont take long! I’ll wait…

AWESOME! Thank you for watching it! Now I want to you to think about the thoughts and impressions you had during the video. Did the Spirit testify to you that it was true? Did you think of someone you wanted to share it with? There were 3 points that were mentioned at the end of the video:

  • Discover The Gift
  • Embrace The Gift
  • Share The Gift

I would like to quickly hit on these 3 points.

Discover The Gift

As we have gained a testimony of the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ we have discovered the gift. We have sought to know if the things our parents, family, friends, or the missionaries have taught us are true. We have a desire to find out who Jesus Christ is and what he has done for us!

Embrace The Gift

We have embraced the gift and continue to embrace it by becoming baptized and renewing the covenants of baptism by partaking of the sacrament. We have seen what a blessing following the example of Jesus Christ has been to us. We have felt His comfort. We have felt His guidance and we know we can continue to follow him.

Share The Gift

We have all heard over and over and over again that once we obtain the word we must share it. But why? Is it so we can get more members in our church? Is so we can get more people to believe what we believe? No it is because we have the full truth. We have all the teachings from all the different prophets and apostles throughout the times back together in the full complete thing! Think of it this way: Imagine you are by yourself looking at the most beautiful sunset you have ever seen! Imagine how happy it makes you! It makes you so happy that you want to share it! So what do you do? You take a picture of it and share it with all your family and friends! The gospel should be the same way! The gospel is that sunset! Now I am not saying go out and shove the gospel down all your friends throats and demanding they join the church, that’s not how it works. Help them find out for themselves the truth of the message and what Jesus Christ has done for all of us. Start by sharing this video with your friends, however you choose to do that! Post it on Facebook with your testimony! Or say to them, “Hey I just saw this video and it reminded me what Christmas is really about, you should check it out!” There are many simple ways to share! Pray and ask your Father in Heaven how you can share this with those who need to hear it! I know he will help you accomplish this! I love you all and I miss you all and I wish you all the best! I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ Amen!

Quick Update

So here is a quick update on how I am doing! Things are going well! Transfers is next week and THIS SATURDAY between the 3 companionships of missionaries in the ward there are going to be FOUR BAPTISMS! FOUR! FOUR people have discovered that gift and are going to embrace it! HOW AWESOME IS THAT! SOO COOL! Anyways gotta run! I love you all and I hope its everything is well with y’all!

Testimonies!

The best part of the week was our wards Halloween party! It was a trunk or treat and chili cook off! We were expecting to get 2 investigators there but 3 came! One of the members in the ward invited and gave one of our investigators a ride all on there own! It was so cool to see the member reach out on their own!

SO yesterday I tried something different that I have never really done, for fast and testimony meeting! I paid extra attention to the testimonies and listened for the little simple truths people spoke of and I paid extra attention to how I felt as people spoke those truths! The spirit truly does testify of truth wherever it is found! It was so cool to see the spirit come and go as people spoke truth! It was awesome to see that!

Also I want to share an experience with you that we actually had a few weeks ago. So 3 or so weeks ago we had a couple walk into church and attend all 3 hours of church. During Sunday School the teacher asked them what brought them to church, if they were members from another ward or if the missionaries had been teaching them etc. Well come to find out the girl in the couple had been following the SHAYTARDS on YouTube. (The SHAYTARDS are a family who are members of the church and they post a vlog everyday about their family life.) Anyways so girl had been following them on YouTube for 4 years and one day decided she wanted to find out why they are so happy and what being “Mormon” is all about and so she looked up the nearest church and come to find out it was ours and they attended church that very next day. THEY ARE NOW SCHEDULED TO BE BAPTIZED IN THE NEXT FEW WEEKS! All because of the example of one family on social media. If you think what you say on the internet doesn’t affect people, you are wrong. People look at our example of how we live our lives and act on social media. You truly can use the social media for good and bless those around you! This is one example on how we can show the word we are for good and how we can be an example and show them the true love of Christ! I love you all and I miss you all terribly! I hope everyone is well!

I ordered some Portuguese name tags! 😀

MIRACLES HAPPEN!

Once and a while if you believe!! (If this part went through your head after you read the title then you win!)

HELLO EVERYONE! How is everyone doing?!?! Good I hope I will just assume you are unless i hear otherwise! This week was a super good week! Amazing how that works! SO! 2 Sundays ago a member introduced us to her mother who had just moved into our area so this last week we began teaching her, and come to find out before she moved she was supposed to be baptized on the 27th of September but she had to suddenly move so she could be baptized. WELL NOW She is getting baptized here! She is still working on moving in so her baptismal date is set for the 7th of December but we are hoping to be able to move it up! She REAAALLLY wants to be sealed to her daughter, which is just awesome! TENDER MERCY OF THE LORD RIGHT HERE! So awesome! We also had interviews with President and Sister Daines. iPads are not coming until after the New Year, but we will be starting facebook here in the next few months! So that will be nice! Oh another miracle time! So Saturday we were doing service and we were helping a member split logs because he was having one of his trees cut down. And so we were using a hydraulic log splitter to split the logs and IT SLIPPED PUT A HOLE THROUGH MY GLOVE ON BOTH SIDES BUT NOT MY HAND!!! LIKE WHAT THE?!?! Yeah we were all just baffled! THE LORD LOOKS OUT FOR HIS MISSIONARIES! So transfers are this week BUT we don’t find out until Wednesday so I don’t know how I will let you know or not. I might send a quick email to say if I am being transferred but if you don’t hear from me then I am staying! How about that?! Things are going better! Thank you for everything! I love you all!

Quick Update!

Hey yall! just wanted to shoot a quick email because I am out of time but this week was a pretty good week! We went to the temple for my birthday which was the best! (well we went the day before but still!) And today we did a Zone Talent show! That was pretty fun too! Over all nothing else too exciting happened! Thank you everyone for the birthday wishes! They meant a lot to me! We are working on finding new people to teach! Finding has been rough here! People are not very nice to us at all and no one really wants to talk to us! So prayers would be awesome! I love you all and miss you all!
