A Christ Centered Life

Hello everyone! I hope everyone had a great week and that you all are doing well! The past few weeks have been good! Super busy but good! We finally have all the iPads rolled out and everyone in the mission has them now! Friday night we received a phone call from a counselor in the Bishopric asking if I could give a talk on Sunday! So this post in my notes that I used to give my talk! I was asked to give it on having a Christ Centered life and I thought, what better way to talking about having a Christ centered life then by looking at how Christ lived His! So if this seems a little jumbled I am sorry it went a lot smoother when I actually gave it! Haha

Throughout Christ’s life he gave us commandments.
– He said that if we loved him we would keep his commandments. (John14:15)
~ John 14:21 "He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him."
– These commandments and Christ’s teachings were meant to be acted upon.
– Through our obedience to them, they will change us and help us to become like our Father in Heaven.
– Following Christ is not something we can do half-heartedly but a way of life that requires our best effort.

Sacrament

He provided us the sacrament as a way to always remember him and the covenants we have made with him.
– In the ordinance of the sacrament we promise to always remember Him and always keep His commandments.

Pray

Christ also taught us that "Men ought always to pray." (Luke 18:1)
– Like He did when we prayed, we pray to Heavenly Father, and we conclude our prayers in the name of Christ.
– We can pray for lots of things, guidance, comfort, the needs of others, protection, help in sharing the gospel, gratitude, the list can go on.
– We are instructed to have personal prayers frequently and that we should pray as families daily. – You have a Father in Heaven who loves you and wants to hear from you!

Serving Others

– Christ has also commanded that we should care for the poor and needy.
– There are many ways we can do this.
– One way is through fasting.
– When we fast we go without food or drink for 2 consecutive meals and then donate the funds we would have used for those 2 meals to be used here locally to help those in need of some assistance.
– When we fast with pure intent we not only help those around us but we also can receive a spiritual feast.

Lost Sheep

Christ often taught in parables. One of the greatest and most familiar, is the parable of the lost sheep.
– He taught us that we need to go out of our way to rescue those who have strayed, member or non-member, they are all our Brothers and Sisters.
– This should be motivated by our love for those around us, Christ taught that we should "…Love thy neighbor as thyself." (Matt 22:39)
– He also said: "A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another."By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another." (John 13:34-35)

Scripture Study

Christ taught that we should study the scriptures.
– In John 5:39 he said "Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me."
– In 3 Nephi he also said "And now, behold, I say unto you, that ye ought to search these things. Yea, a commandment I give unto you that ye search these things diligently…"
– Through His prophet Nephi we have been promised that when we "[feast] upon the word of Christ, and endure to the end, behold, thus saith the Father: Ye shall have eternal life." (2 Nephi 31:20)

Conclusion

– In Doctrine & Covenants 130 we read:
"20 There is a law, irrevocably decreed in heaven before the foundations of this world, upon which all blessings are predicated.
21 And when we obtain any blessing from God, it is by obedience to that law upon which it is predicated."
– When we strive to live these commandments we are blessed. Not only with temporal and spiritual things, but with a change of heart. We are blessed with a desire to continue to be obedient to these commandments, as well as with a better understanding and appreciation for the Atoning Sacrifice of our Savior Jesus Christ.

I would like to leave you with my testimony that I know this work is true! I know that the Book of Mormon is the word of God! I love that book with all my heart! I have come to know of what a great blessing it is to read and study and share it with others! I know that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God and that by the Power of God he was able to translate the Book of Mormon! I also know that Christ’s authority to act in his name is again upon the earth! I grateful for the sacrifice of many people who have made this Restoration of the fullness of the gospel possible! I am grateful for our Savior’s atoning sacrifice and for the ability to start new. I am grateful that we have the opportunity to have eternal families! I could not imagine heaven without my family! I love you all and I am grateful for all the love and support you give me! I leave these words with you in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen!

Transferred To The Land Of Powell

HELLO EVERYONE! I have been transferred to the area where I served in the first week of my mission, when I was with the assistants! I am in Powell! No I’m not an assistant, they moved the assistant area, but it is so I can be closer to the mission home and the mission office! (They are in the ward boundaries.) Elder Boaz was transferred as well to Chillicothe, OH! The Zone Leaders and I switched places! iPads are going good! Friday we set up ours and the assistants iPads and we have been using them ever since! Last week I learned all about what my new assignment as a Technology Specialist entails! Haha we are like the second set of assistants almost! They are rolling the iPads out in phases so initially when we get the iPads we will not being using Facebook yet. The first phase we will just be using them for studying and teaching, second phase is moving all of the area information and our planning online. After we do that we will then being using the iPads as a proselyting tool! This could take months it could take weeks, it all depends on how fast our mission moves threw the various steps associated with each phase! You will be able to see my page and friend me I will give my details on that when we cross that bridge. I am not District Leader anymore. That would be way too much to handle! Powell is a lot like a wooded South Jordan, with big houses and such! Our apartment is like any plain old apartment! We are on the top floor and the view from the window by my desk consists of the Target across the street! My new companion is Elder Caldwell from Ogden, UT! Since we have been here we have not been able to teach anyone yet. The one appointment we did have rescheduled to today and then rescheduled again to Thursday! So we shall see about that! We hope to meet the rest of the investigators this week plus with rolling out the iPads this week and Mini Missions coming up next week it’s going to keep us be busy! Which is good! Yesterday we had another music fireside. And anything and everything that could go wrong during it, did! First the videos started playing without sound, then during one of the musical numbers one of the mic’s died and then the projector decided it didn’t want to connect to the computer anymore! Haha but overall it went well! Other than that not too much has happened! I am still in the same zone as I was in Worthington so that’s pretty funny too! I love you all and I am glad everyone is well! Thank you for all the support you give me!
