Kenton, Ohio!

Hello everyone! Greetings from the middle of nowhere, Ohio! I LOVE IT! Reminds me of Grantsville except older and slightly bigger and cooler! I have been transferred to the Marion Branch, the OLDEST Branch in the church! Elder L. Tom Perry served in this branch when he was on his mission! Last year when Elder Perry came to visit, he told President Wilkes (The Branch President) that when this branch becomes a ward (and it is soooo close) he will come back for it! Over this past year the active members have gone from 80 to about 130! So we are so so soo close to becoming a ward! Now for a tour!

The star is the town I am assigned to (Kenton, Ohio). The blue outline is our branch boundary (Red is mission boundary! Purple is other ward boundaries), and the meetinghouse is in Marion, Ohio! For those of you playing at home that comes out to 60 miles round trip to church!

I love it out here so much! There is so much work to be done, and we have to do a lot of tracting but even when people aren’t interested they are still so nice to us! There is only ONE active member in our town, yes that is right ONE! But there about 30 less active members so we are definitely working on that! Most of them say they will be active when we get a branch in Kenton but we can’t get a branch in Kenton until Marion gets enough members to become a ward and we get enough ACTIVE Priesthood in Kenton! #TheStruggleIsRealYo! But They way I am seeing it, is that they are basically saying they will “Follow Christ, when its convenient for them.” Becoming a true disciple of Jesus Christ is NEVER an easy task. We are always going to have to make sacrifices. When we sacrifice things we are showing our true faith that we know the Lord will take care of things!

New companion time! So with a new area comes a new companion! Introducing Elder Jenkins! This fine young gent is from Le Grande, Oregon! WOOOO! He has been out for 10 months and yes we are rockin the BYU hoodies like us Mormons do!

I love you all and I am so grateful for all your support and for everything y’all do for me! Remember who you are and what you stand for! Remember Jesus loves you and so do I!

Dog Wrestling and Transferred!

Oh my flip what an interesting week! Just wow! So many crazy things happened! It sounds like everyone is doing well so I will just cut right to the chase! I don’t have a lot spiritually uplifting stuff to share this week but just hold on to your hats children!

Monday! So not even last week! The we were on an exchange with the zone leaders so I had Elder Patch with me, anyways, so last week we pull up to this lady’s house because we have an appointment with her and her daughter is pounding on the door of the house, so we walk up and she says that the younger kids have locked her out and then she walks off and into her house which is right next door! So Elder Patch, a member we are with, and myself just kind of stand there for a bit and we see this 19 year old girl walking her dog (It was like a yorkie or something small like that) down the street so we start talking to her, and then one of kids from the house we are at opens the door finally except the pit bull bolts past us and toward this dog and starts attacking this girls dog. The girl tries to hold her dog away from this pit bull but then the pit bull starts biting her trying to get to the other dog. So I am trying to grab this dogs collar and throw the pit bull off of her so it will stop and I finally grab its collar and pin it to the ground. After I have the this dog pinned to the ground the yorkie gets out of its leash and runs down the road back to its house. The daughter FINALLY comes out of her house and grabs the pit bull from me and takes it back inside while Elder Patch runs to get the dog. After she takes the dog, I try to help this girl sit down and see where she is bit. She only has one bite mark on her leg and only one puncture wound from that mark. But she is worried about her dog so she hobbles to go get it back. We help her to her house and after I run back to grab her bag because she had dropped it. When I get back to this girls house her mom tells me that she has called the cops so we had to wait for them to show up. While we are waiting for them to arrive we start talking to them about who we are and the church and share the restoration with them! Needless to say we got 2 new investigators and lost one because of this crazy incident. OH! And I am getting transferred! Not sure where too but I will let you know! Its interesting how Heavenly Father works! I love you all and you are all in my prayers!

That We May Rejoice Together

Hello everyone! I hope you all had an amazing week! This week was incredible! We had our Mini Missionary with us all week and He was truly a blessing to us! This week I was reading in this month’s Ensign and I read an article called That We May Rejoice Together! I recommend EVERYONE read it! It talks about being a member missionary. I know, I know y’all are tired of hearing about it, I know I was when I was at home but being out here has made me realize how important being a member missionary really is!

Everyone Needs Friends!

The fact of the matter is our investigators CANNOT progress without the help of members. Missionaries come and go all the time, they need solid support and friendship if they are to remain active. I mean you wouldn’t want to remain in a church if you didn’t feel like you didn’t belong there either!

Go out with the missionaries!

We LOVE when members come with us to lessons! It brings a whole different feel to the lessons that two young men in a shirt and tie can’t bring alone. It makes investigators feel more comfortable because it turns into a discussion rather than two missionaries sharing a message. Relate to the people you are teaching too! They love it! We love it! And YOU will love it too when you share your testimony! As you share it, it will grow! Even if you may not have a lot of free time, use what time you do have to help! I have had countless members come up to my companion and I after they have gone to a lesson with us and say things along the lines of “Thank you for asking me to go, I didn’t have a lot of free time but I decided to go anyways and it brightened up my whole week!” I promise it will be an amazing experience!

Referrals!

Introduce your friends to the missionaries! I know it is scary to talk to people about religion sometimes but when you listen to promptings of the Spirit, He will have you know what you need to say! Member Referrals have greater success than just having missionaries walk around and knock on doors! Plus they already have the support system (ie you!) to help them adjust and change their life for the better! Think back on the most beautiful sunset you have ever seen! When you saw that sunset you wanted share it with others because it brought you joy right?! The restored gospel should be the same way! You aren’t referring your friends just so the missionaries can add a plus one to their baptisms tally. You are referring your friends because YOU know how much the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has blessed your life!

I know this work is the work of Salvation and it really does bless people’s lives! And as you participate in it, it will bless your lives too! I love you all and I miss you all! Be good! Have fun!

Listening To The Spirit and Mini Missionaries!

Another week, another 7 dollars! (Get it, because the saying goes another day another dollar and there are 7 days in a week?! Never mind…) ANYWAYS! How is everyone going! I want to hear about all your lives! So y’all know what to do! Drop me a line! I try my best to respond but I will respond eventually!

This week has been really good! We had Zone Conference and we got to help inspect half the mission’s cars on the day we didn’t have Zone Conference so that was a lot of fun!

This week we had a lesson with a family we had tracted into a couple of weeks ago and we taught them about The Restoration of the Church of Jesus Christ. Towards the end of the lesson as we were wrapping up the Spirit prompted me to invite them to baptism! and I was like "No! Elder Wright will do it!" but the Spirit kept prompting me to do it! and I was like noooo I am too scared to do it and I don’t know what to say!! But then the Spirit prompted something to me that really struck me. It said, "Invite her (the mom) to baptism and I will fill your mouth with the words you need for her to accept." After I got that prompting the over whelming sense of enthusiasm and excitement came over me! I don’t really remember what I said but Elder Wright kind of filled me in after! I talked about how we receive true faith, it makes us want to act and go do something to come closer to Christ, and as we honestly read and pray about the Book of Mormon we exercise our faith and we are given more faith that makes us want to come closer to Christ and be baptized! She accepted baptism and it was just awesome!

Last Saturday we received Mini Missionaries! Mini Missionaries is where the Youth ages 16 to 18 get the chance to live and work with the missionaries for one week! They are set apart by their stake president and everything! Its really cool! So after we picked up our mini missionary we went to a lesson with Liz and Gary. The ones who are raising their two twin grandsons! In this lesson we showed them the Restoration DVD. As we were wrapping up this lesson neither Elder Wright or I felt like we should extend baptism! We knew we needed to but neither one of us felt like we should! THEN OUR MINI MISSIONARY EXTENDS! After he does Liz sits there for a few seconds and then says, "I have been thinking about it!" And then Gary says he wants to and then says that they had been thinking about coming to church with us too! BUT DANG SATAN GOT THEM ALL SICK! So they couldn’t come but still! The way the Spirit works is just incredible! Our mini missionaries were sent to our areas exactly like we were, through prayer and the spirit! They have all been called to their areas for a reason and to see how the Lord has a plan for us is mind blowing! I KNOW THIS IS THE RESTORED GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST! There is no other Church that has the fullness and the AUTHORITY to act in God’s name on this earth today! I am so grateful to the chance I have to serve and I say these things in the name of our Savior and Redeemer, Jesus Christ AMEN!

Tender Mercies!

What a week! Things have been good in the hood! (Straight up that’s where I am at yo!)

So last week I was getting frustrated with myself because I was not progressing, or at least I thought! I felt like I wasn’t getting better at teaching and I was getting frustrated that I couldn’t recall scriptures and it was just frustrating! It it amazing how fast the Lord can work! As if to be overnight I could see how far I really had come and I started to recall things and scriptures and it was amazing! In a way it was like the Lord was saying to me, "You can do this! You are doing well! Be patient with yourself! It takes time!" The Lord will never forsake us, We need to show and take steps of faith and he will uphold us!

Another tender mercy that was just amazing was yesterday I was on an exchange with a Spanish Elder (For all those of you that forgot, I am in the English Speaking mission!) and we went to read the Book of Mormon IN SPANISH with a less active member. I was freaking out because I could not remember ANY of the little Spanish I knew. So I prayed my heart out! That I would not totally bomb reading. AND AGAIN! The Lord provided a way for me to not fail! I was able to read, not perfectly but my knowledge of Spanish and Portuguese was brought to my remembrance through the spirit! That is why studying the gospel and the scriptures is so so soo important! Because the Spirit relies on that foundation of knowledge so it can bring it to our remembrance! It was an amazing experience!

I love you all so much I am glad everything is going well with everyone at home! You are all in my prayers daily! Go talk to someone this week about the gospel! Share just a principle about it! No matter the persons faith it will uplift that person you are sharing it with! The Lord WILL bless you for it!
